A web portal that unified payment management across Hyundai France's 180+ dealer network, supported a new car-service subscription model, and streamlined deposit collection and KYC onboarding via Stripe Connect.
Hyundai Motor Co., the South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer, has a strong presence in France with a range of cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles. The French automotive market is one of the largest in Europe and competition is high - in recent years there has been a marked shift towards environmentally friendly vehicles, with hybrid and electric models becoming increasingly popular. Hyundai has invested heavily in eco-friendly launches like the Kona Electric and the Nexo fuel-cell vehicle to meet that demand.
In 2022, Hyundai France announced an ambitious set of digital launches, including a new pre-owned vehicle service designed to revolutionise the way customers purchase and maintain used cars. The company partnered with Stripe and Square1 to bridge the existing systems, give Hyundai France a centralised place to manage their offering and their dealers, and provide the operational foundation for new subscription-style services.
The brief had two intertwined goals. First, give Hyundai France a single web portal to manage payments and dealers across the network. Second, keep that portal flexible enough to handle the full breadth of digital sales - deposit payments on cards today, with new services like subscription-style car ownership added on top tomorrow.
With a network of over 180 dealers operating throughout France, Hyundai faced complex payment flows involving multiple stakeholders and legacy software applications. The lack of a unified view of payments was a significant operational drag - inefficiencies in payment processes made it hard for Hyundai to manage payments effectively or to make data-driven decisions across the dealer base. Any solution had to streamline payment processes, provide real-time insights into transactions, and lay the groundwork for subscription products that hadn't yet launched.
We built a Stripe Connect-powered web portal for Hyundai France that unifies the view of payments across multiple parts of the operation. Stripe Connect handles the multi-party financial relationship between Hyundai HQ and the dealer network, and Stripe's user-friendly Know Your Customer (KYC) tooling makes onboarding and regulatory compliance considerably less painful than the legacy alternative.
The portal supports three operator profiles. The Hyundai HQ admin manages the entire network and can create new dealers and users at any time. The dealership salesman handles day-to-day customer transactions and deposit-payment-link generation. The legal manager of a dealership can see all relevant transactions across the dealerships they cover. Each profile sees exactly the data they need - no more, no less - which keeps the experience focused and the access controls clean.
The platform unifies payment management across the Hyundai France business, gives HQ a real-time view of transactions across the dealer network, and supplies the aggregated reporting needed to monitor business performance and respond to customer queries. Bringing the disparate systems together under a single Stripe-backed roof has been a meaningful operational lift - Hyundai has been able to optimise payment and dealer management processes that previously lived in spreadsheets and email threads.
Just as importantly, the platform is positioned for what comes next. The Connect topology is ready to absorb subscription-style car-service products without rework, the dealer onboarding flow scales to new partners, and the reporting layer handles new revenue lines as they launch. Hyundai France has a payment foundation that grew with their ambitions rather than constraining them.
